No class today, so this morning I went on one of the "walks" from this book of London walks, it lays out step-by-step where to go, and describes things you'll see on the way, sort of like when you put on those headphones in a museum and they tell you what you're looking at. It was mostly around the Fleet Street area, home of Sweeney Todd as well as the former hub of publication, it was where all the newspapers used to be based.
I also saw St. Paul's Cathedral, which is quite impressive. It is where Princess Diana and Prince Charles got married.
I liked the "walk" because it took me lots of places I would never venture, like back alleys and little hidden streets. A lot of them looked really shady, but there was always a couple people in it so it was alright. For example:
I had lunch at the Black Friars pub, a really cool place:
Then later today I went to Buckingham Palace, which wasn't too impressing, but it was pretty cool just for the fact that it was a Palace:
The water outside was a really weird green color. Like...money. ...American money. Damn, I have no reason why it was green. But then at another spot, they decided "Hey, let's make this green water look more respectable, like it is as noble as the Palace it sits in front of":
"We'll just have the water coming out of this guy's mouth. What? No, not like vomit, like he is showering it upon us from above, like a rain cloud. The water looks like vomit, not rain? Well -"
Anyways, then I rode a bus around for a while, and found the place where Jimi Hendrix lived for a year:
Ooh, and you can't see this too well, but the symbol is of a horse. They had a crossing for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians. That was exciting.
Tomorrow is a couple of classes, but then done for the week. Not much planned for this weekend yet.
